Upgraded Database server - request for donation

The database server for Blenderstorm.org and Planetblender.org has been upgraded to a better solution. Already Blenderstorm is much more responsive, so that’s a good thing!

The bad thing of course is the increased hosting costs. If you want to help us out providing these services, you can donate directly towards the hosting bill by going to this link and make a donation. It would be great to be able to raise 360 dollars on a yearly basis. And of course, if we get more donations than that, we can ensure even better services by upgrading to even better performance for the database server!

Database server changed - [missing posts fixed]

Hi all,

Last night the database server got changed to something more responsive, but in the course of the event somehow the blog posts before the change seem to be not showing up. I verified in the database itself that they are still there, but for some reason they won’t show up. I’m on it to solve it ASAP. Thank you for your patience.

Slowly getting close to a HUNDRED blogs

Planet Blender has been growing steadily over the past few months, with a few incarnations at the beginning and some new features during this period, and more to come of course!

I have today added the Blender related RSS feeds for a few very interesting Vimeo channels, as mentioned in http://vimeo.com/BlenderAnim/blog:1821

I hope that we can together make sure that our Planet keeps growing into a wealth of information.

Planet Blender trouble fixed

The loyal readers of the Planet Blender feed probably have noticed half a day of errors in the feed. My host moved my account around between some machines, and some changes were made to home directory locations. The way I had set Planet Blender up naturally broke with that, but fortunately all is fine again.

Blendernation.com has been unreachable for a while now. The ISP has been contacted and the problem will be solved ASAP. Just hang in there, alright?

Planet Blender and Languages

I’ve implemented a very simple language ’switch’ for Planet Blender. By default, only English blogs will be show, when you go to ie. http://www.planetblender.org . In the left bar you can choose to view blogs from all languages though.

This means that from now on, I’ll accept blogs from all languages for aggregation on Planet Blender.

Planet Blender Sidebars

Planet Blender has now two sidebars in which the ten latest builds from Graphicall.org and the ten latest commits to the Blender SVN repository are shown (using the RSS feed from CIA.cv.

This should make it clearer to read the blogs, and still have instant access to what happens! Keep an eye on the sidebars to see if a new build for your system is available.

I’ll keep adding new features to Planet Blender for your reading convenience.

Blender.org down - some information

From the blender.org administrators:

The last few days the website of Blender 3D has been down. The site has been very slow and unresponsive quite a bit, but we are investigating as to what causes this problem.

The latest guestimate is that it might be a hardware problem. Rest assured that we’re trying to get it all back online as soon as possible. Unfortunately until then there’s nothing much you can do but wait.

Well, that’s not cool. Let’s just hope everything works out alright!

New Planet Blender site launched

After a good week of coding and testing, the new site of Planet Blender has been launched. The new features work great: you can search in the blog messages that have been archived at Planet Blender, you can browse to older pages with blog messages.

Under the hood there are some changes that make it easier to maintain and update feeds and posts.

But the most important part is of course that Planet Blender got even more enjoyable than it already was.

Planet Blender would be nothing without the many feeds that have been subscribed, and its success will continue to rely on the great Blender community we have. If you know more good feeds that you think should be a part of Planet Blender, please contact Nathan Letwory with links to the feeds you want to see included.
